Frequently asked questions
Does this calculator use the new or the old regime?
It uses the new regime under the Income Tax Act 2025 only. The 1961 Act was repealed on 1 April 2026; we do not publish old-regime calculations anywhere on this site.
What is Rebate 87A?
If your total income is up to ₹5 lakh, the income tax on your taxable income is fully waived under section 87A of the Income Tax Act 2025. Above ₹5 lakh, the rebate is zero and the full slab tax applies.
Is the ₹60,000 standard deduction applied?
Yes. The calculator subtracts a ₹60,000 standard deduction from your annual income before computing tax. This is the standard deduction available to salaried and pension taxpayers under the new regime.
Is this result my final tax?
It is a planning estimate. Final tax depends on your Form 16, 26AS, AIS records, and any TDS already deducted. Confirm the numbers with your bank or a chartered accountant before filing your ITR.
Methodology and sources
The calculator applies the new-regime slabs from the Income Tax Act 2025 to your gross annual income, then subtracts the ₹60,000 standard deduction and applies Rebate 87A on incomes up to ₹5 lakh. Education cess is 4% of the income tax. Verify every number against the primary sources before filing your ITR.
