Frequently asked questions
Are these rates the current GST rates?
Yes. The rates are 0%, 5%, 18%, and 40% as set by the GST Council. The 12% and 28% slabs were abolished in September 2025 and replaced with the 40% rate for sin and luxury goods. Rates are verified 19 October 2026.
When do I pay CGST + SGST vs IGST?
For intrastate transactions (within one state), you pay CGST + SGST, each equal to half the total rate. For inter-state transactions (between states), you pay IGST at the full rate. The GST invoice states which one applies.
Is GST calculated on the inclusive or exclusive amount?
GST is always calculated on the base (exclusive) amount. The total amount inclusive of GST equals base amount plus CGST plus SGST (or IGST). This calculator uses the exclusive base amount as input.
What GST rate applies to my product or service?
The rate depends on the HSN code of your product or service. Most日常 necessities are 0% or 5%, general services and goods are 18%, and sin goods (tobacco, luxury items) attract 40%. Check the GST Council rate schedule or ask your tax advisor for the exact HSN code.
